Walt Disney's FLASH
www.rivermontfarm.com

"FLASH" was filmed during the hot summer of 1997.  It was the summer I would turn 22, and we had just finished a long weekend horse show.  On the way home that afternoon I ate a chicken sandwich from a fast food restaurant and became horribly sick with food poisoning.  I stayed in bed for 5 long days, thinking I would die!  My phone rang on about the 5th day of that lovely food poisoning battle, and it was a casting director telling me about this movie that needed a stunt double.  She had called a friend of mine who sold horse trailers who referred her my way.  I remember still being so sick, but I agreed to audition for the part.  I had lost around 10 pounds that week due to being sick.  Oddly enough, that made me the ideal weight to be Lucas Black's stunt double, and they needed someone who was right around 5' tall (I'm 5'1").  I rode for the director and the horse wrangler, and was told I had the part.  The only catch....I had to shave my LONG hair.  I couldn't imagine doing such a thing, so I called my mother and asked for some advice.  She told me I was nuts if I didn't do it, that my hair would grow back.

I took her advice and my hair was shaved, leaving me looking like 14 year old Lucas Black.  We began filming in late July that summer, and boy what an experience it would be!  I feel blessed to have had such an incredible opportunity such as this, and I had no idea the movie would be as popular as it is.  It is really a good, clean movie.  We filmed for approx. 6 weeks in the Conyers and Covington, GA areas.  I remember it took 3 long, hot days just to film the race scene. It was very hard work, but I'm glad I did it!  I invite you to buy the movie below through Amazon.com.  It's safe for the kids to watch, and the big kids will love it too!  I have placed some pictures on this website for your viewing, but please know they are copyrighted and may not be used without permission from me first.  I appreciate your cooperation.  Just so you'll know, most of the riding is done by myself.  They did do some close up shots of Lucas riding, and then blended it in with my parts.  The movie is directed by the wonderful Simon Wincer, who has done incredible movie's such as "Pharlap", "Operation Dumbo Drop", "The Man From Snowy River", and "Free Willy".   Enjoy this page!  Thanks....Ashley Godwin  Email: Rivermontfarm@alltel.net

Here is a picture of what my hair looked like BEFORE Flash!  It was mid-back length.

That's me on "FLASH" on the back cover galloping!  The picture below to the left was taken the day we filmed this scence.

That's me on "Flash".  I was told to look like a kid who didn't know how to ride, which oddly enough was a lot harder than you'd think!  This is the scene where Flash runs away with Conner the first time he gets on him.  The guy in the picture is the gentleman who wrote the script for Flash.
